Frauennotruf Kiel e.V. (Women’s aid centre) was founded in 1979. We are a registered charity, we are politically independent and non-confessional. We operate the women’s crisis and counselling centre for sexual violence in Kiel, and the women’s and girl’s counselling centre for abuse and violence in the Plön region. We also run the Petze prevention office which operates across the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The counselling centre in Kiel has received funding from the city of Kiel and the state of Schleswig-Holstein since 1989. The counselling centre in Plön was founded in 1995. The team of paid staff at both centres includes psychologists, educators and social education workers. Our services are free of charge for women affected by abuse and for supporters. On request, all information will remain anonymous.

Our aims

In our work we aim to:
Provide individual counselling and group sessions to empower women to overcome the social, mental and physical impact of sexual violence, and to help them develop coping strategies.
Campaign, raise awareness and educate with the aim of making the many different forms of the abuse of patriarchal power visible, to eliminate it and help to sustainably make a difference to women’s lives.

Our services

Our counselling services include the following issues:

  • Rape/sexual assault
  • Sexual abuse / sexual violence in childhood
  • Domestic violence (at the Plön advice centre)
  • Stalking
  • Sexual harassment at work
  • Sexual violence under the influence of date rape drugs
  • Ritual violence / violence as part of organised crime
  • Prostitution, pornography
  • Sexual abuse in therapy and in relationships based on dependency
  • Sexual violence against women migrants or refugees
  • Sexual violence against older women
  • Sexual violence against women with disabilities
  • Sexual violence in connection with flight and war
  • We also offer training courses and expert advice for professionals in this field.

Women’s aid and counselling centre for sexual abuse in Kiel

Our counselling centre in Kiel provides services for women and girls aged 16+, their family and friends, individuals and professionals who work with survivors in all matters related to sexual violence and abuse. As well as our basic counselling services, our centre in Kiel also offers a range of specialised, externally funded projects aimed at specific target groups.

Psychosocial court advocacy:

Adult and young witnesses who have survived sexual or physical violence are entitled to support and advocacy throughout the legal proceedings free of charge. (Link zur Prozessbegleitung)

“über arbeiten”:

This service is aimed at women who receive SGB-II (ALG II) state benefits and who are having problems finding a job due to their experience of violence. This service is officially recognised as a subsidised programme. (Link zu „über arbeiten“)

“basta” (help for students who have experienced violence):

Since April 2017, our counselling centre has cooperated with the student union of the CAU University to offer counselling sessions for students who have experienced violence. Advice is also provided for family members and professionals who work with survivors on all matters related to sexual violence and abuse. (Link zu basta)

Advice on the EHS Fund (Sexual Abuse fund):

We are recognised as an advice centre by the Fonds Sexueller Missbrauch (sexual abuse fund). Survivors who have been sexually abused in the family or within a relationship of dependency can apply for assistance in the form of therapy etc. (Link zur Beratung)

Advice for men who are affected by sexual abuse or domestic violence:

In 2012, we also started providing counselling at our Kiel centre for men aged 16+ who have experienced sexual abuse. Since November 2016, we have been part of the model project run by the state of Schleswig-Holstein aimed at men who have experienced sexual or domestic violence or abuse. Counselling takes place in separate rooms in the same building as the women’s advice centre. The other two locations for this model project are in Elmshorn and Itzehoe (Link zur Männderberatung Schleswig-Holstein). 


Abuse counselling and crisis centre for girls and women in Plön

Our counselling centre provides services for women and girls aged 16+ who are experiencing or have survived sexual and/or domestic abuse. We also advise family members, individuals and professionals who work with survivors on all matters related to sexual violence and abuse.

The centre in Plön is registered as an official counselling service in accordance with section 201a State Administration Act (exclusion orders) in cases of domestic abuse.

As well as our basic counselling services, our centre in Plön also offers a range of specialised, externally funded projects.

KIK:
The service centre is responsible for the regional coordination of the KIK project, “Kooperation- und Interventionskonzept bei häuslicher Gewalt” (cooperation and intervention project for domestic violence) in Schleswig-Holstein. (Link zu KIK)

Frauennotruf Kiel e.V. is a member of bff, the German association of rape crisis centres and women’s counselling centres, and LFSH, the state association of women’s counselling centres in Schleswig-Holstein.
Frauennotruf Kiel e.V. is also a member of the Paritätische, the federal association of non-statutory welfare organisations.
